Torn Together
I hope everyone is able to enjoy Labor Day today.
Israel has been going through one of the worst forms of labor -- soldiers removing people from their own homes and land. Here is a beautiful photo essay by Tzvi Freeman for Chabad.org that will touch your heart. Watch and feel pride for all that Israel is. Hat tip to Naomi Ragen.

Rather tired and "stream of consciousness" comment, I'm afraid.
I was so upset by the whole Gaza issue, especially as it wouldn't matter what "the West" ("The Wicked Witch of the West") does or did, if Israel was given up or lost tomorrow, they would still pursue the World until we were all in their caliphate.
Tried to track down the UN Resolutions pertinent to Israel/Palestine, because I tend to try to go back to the sources that everyone quotes to their own advantage, and could not re-find them, but I had them on my old laptop and remember that, yes, Israel has "broken" part of these resolutions, but the Palestinians have done likewise. This is never, never mentioned. They have also broken these same resolutions that everyone keeps quoting without ever having actually read them (I have!).
Also, who the heck is the UN anyway? What the heck is this "international law" that (always) "the West" is in breach of? The only laws I would consider keeping are those enacted by a body to which I have the right to directly vote in the members. When did any of us have the chance to vote in delegates to this Assembly? To hell with the UN. What has it ever done to help REALLY? We all like the concept of a United Nations, but let's face it, it doesn't even begin to live up to my expectations.
Sorry for rant. Hope I haven't inadvertently offended.
Esther, delete if you feel it's inappropriate.
Rock on, RM. You can rant here anytime. I don't think you're saying anything that most of my readers wouldn't be nodding with in agreement. I don't know of much the Palestinians have actually done right and towards any type of human goodness. And by Palestinians I mean the PA... their people are hostage to their brand of mafia.
RM - The UN's Partition Plan of 1947 was the document that spelled out the partitioning of the area known as "Palestine". Also, UN Resolution 242 is one that many of Israel's detractors use to beat Israel with, even though its authors have tried in vain to correct common misconceptions of its true meaning.
These docs and more can be found here:

Resolution 181 on the partition of Palestine:
http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/un/res181.htm
An excelent resource from Yale University.
As far as Israel "breaking" these resolutions, they agreed to 181 in its entirety, it was the Arabs who did not, and attacked. As to others, i would be hard-pressed to claim that Israel has broken any UN Resolution passed by the UN against Israel as she and the US have consistently voted no on these resolutions as they have been consistently biased towards Israel. You can't exactly break an "agreement" to which you do not agree.
Another good source of info:

And yeah, the UN does suck.
Great links, Mark! Thanks for sharing!
mark:
the UN is the most worthless, stupid P.O.S. on earth. they certainly do suck.
DM - Well, at least we agree on the UN!

Esther,
Thank you. This is a beautiful and moving tribute to the Jewish people--in the midst of this sadness there is such a show of strength.
Yes there is much to be angry about but in the end--The Jewish people and their continuing struggle have many allies and supporters. I would like to consider myself one of them.
The USMC might be used to "pull" the same duty in the New Orleans area and elsewhere in the path of destruction ... What part of "evacuate" do "they" not understand?
