Israel expects full-scale Mideast war in 2006

Hat tip to Bridges for Peace for this article. I truly hope Israel is wrong, but as my friend The Weez pointed out, they can't afford to be.

Israel has reportedly expressed its belief to Washington that Iran and several of its Arab allies are preparing for a full-scale war against the Jewish state, possibly following the expected US withdrawal from Iraq in 2006.

It won't happen. The Iranian regime's goal is the same as all totalitarians, to stay in power. Invading Israel would insure that they don't.

I am sure the countries in question would have several scenarios stored under consideration.

"The Iranian regime's goal is the same as all totalitarians, to stay in power."

You're right but unfortunately totalitarian regimes must have an enemy to fight with and this is also mainly to stay in power.
The enemy (real or imaginary) feeds the fear of the local population, justifies application of terror, explains economic ruination and gives those regimes smokescreen to cover their mismanagement, ignorance and incompetence.
Prolonged periods of peace destroy the totalitarian regimes from within and so facing collapse they must make their move.
Of course in most cases the real war is also self destructive for them as their economic infrastructure cannot sustain prolonged costs of warfare.
But… totalitarian regimes are not based on logic and resolve.

I hope it never comes to pass ..., but if it does; I will support Israel more than ever! Those who know ... know that "we" are linked to Israel and will fight with their Warriors until the threats are defeated and destroyed.

God smiles down on Israel ... that is my belief!

I agree with Felis; totalitarians like Iran do indeed need an enemy to fight, and history shows that they will often stupidly swagger into an unwinnable war. (Saddam Hussein, for example.) The question is, which of the great powers will get involved? Will the United States honor it`s committments to Israel if faced with war with the Russians and/or Chinese?

The Arab nations will never be satisfied with anything Israel does to make peace. They have one goal; the complete elimination of Israel from the Middle East.

Israel is performing a highwire act, and its razorwire they`re walking on!
