Going DaySide
Today was a great episode of Linda Vester's DaySide, which airs on Fox News Channel. First, I learned about an interesting book that's coming out (today, I think) called Infiltration: How Muslim Spies and Subversives have Penetrated Washington, by Paul Sperry. It sounded very interesting.
Then there was a discussion on 24, the Fox show that has had pressure from some Muslim groups. To discuss it, she had on a guy from MPAC (visit Daniel Pipes to see what bad news they are) and 24 actress, Shohreh Aghdashloo, who plays Dina Araz, mother of the sleeper cell family. This was a great discussion. Aghdashloo was raised as a moderate Muslim. She grew up being told that no Muslim is to commit suicide. For anyone who wants to believe the best of Islam, they should have this lady front and center -- and many more like her.
MPAC guy said he had a problem with the show, that he feels it's guilty of negligently bolstering hate mongering. Aghdashloo disagreed with this and made an interesting argument. She compared the show to our fascination with James Bond, whose stories were often based on a real event -- the Cold War. Art is inspired by what's really going on. 24 is basically doing that. Aghdashloo added that all societies have good and bad individuals. This is no different, and therefore she has no problem with how <24> has portrayed Muslims. Take that MPAC man!

Aghdashloo also played the Iranian military officer's wife in "House of Sand and Fog." She's a fine actor. . . . I just started following "24" this season and I'm hooked. It's like a Tom Clancy soap opera, at times, but it is gripping and well produced. FOX was taking a lot of heat for its portrayal of Muslims in a negative light (as -- ohmygosh! -- terrorists), so they introduced two positive Arab/Muslim characters last night.
If Islamicists are concerned with their image in America, they should stop blowing themselves up around the world and flying planes into buildings here in the United States. Their P.R. department is not very savvy.
She's in HoSaF? Cool. Now I have even more reason to watch it. I like her work a lot. Thanks j. And amen to your second paragraph.
patrick -- you're right about that. they've never worked so hard to play down the opposition in past seasons.
really gindy....very interesting!
Drat! One of the few days I didn't scan FN'C's schedule and they actually had something of interest ... ;)
Jack Bauer's kill/episode ratio needs to increase a tad ... Kiefer more than "makes up" for his "putz" of a father.
I feel bad that "President Parker" is now relegated to "Allstate Swoop and Squat" commercials ... :)
I won't type that Linda Vester is HOT! due to the sexist implications ... :)
You boys just crack me up. Rita Cosby?!?! I understand Laurie, Dari...even Vester to a point but Rita? LOL!
rr -- no worries. It made laugh. :)
SA -- the former president will be coming back later in the season -- and I can't wait!
Thanks, RR! It needed to be typed ...

Right On! I enjoy Dennis Haysbert's work in 24...
re: Rita Cosby
I'm sorry but "I can't get behind Rita!" It was once stated that "Fat Bottomed Girls Make the World Go Round ..." but Rita pushes the envelope! (IMHO) She reminds me of a "high school gossip" when she "retorts" and nearly makes me want to gag ... Oh, yes! gagging maggots is what Rita does in my humble estimation ...

Now, Laurie Dhue ... hubba hubba!
