It Never Ends

On Sept. 6 and 7 in Washington, D.C., a conference entitled, "Terrorism, Security, and America's Purpose" was held. One of the speakers was a man by the name of Stephen Walt. According to someone I met who attended, he spoke of how the alliance with Israel is a detriment to the United States and that we should pressure Israel to give the Palestinians a state. The man's assertions went unchallenged. So was this a pro-Arab conference? Is he a fringe member of some whacked-out group? Were the people there anti-Semites?

Actually, it was sponsored by the New America Foundation, a respected Washington think tank. The audience included former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, retired General Wesley Clark and Senator Joe Biden. And the man himself? Next in line to become the dean of Harvard. We're hardly talking fringe, folks. Unless higher education itself has become fringe, which isn't as far-fetched as it sounds.

You can read some of his writings to see for yourself how tragically uninformed this man is who has some of the best of our children's education in his hands. To say I'm disappointed that the people who attended sat by and said nothing as this man suggested we turn on our staunchest ally would be... well... an understatement.

I find it dangerous too, Rory. And thanks. I don't think OBL said anything about the Palestinians until months later. He never gave a damn about them and his attacking the US never had anything to do with them.

None of the Arab or Muslim countries or leaders give two shits about the "Palestinian" Arabs. If they did, they would have had staehood under the Jordanian's watch between 1949 and 1967. The "Palestinians" are a stik with which to beat Israel. Nothing more.

Mark, soooooo true.

Gindy, I left off one name that the person I met said was there because I couldn't find anything on the net to back it up but it was John Ashcroft.... hardly leftwing. But again, I don't know for sure that he was there.

'we should pressure Israel to give the Palestinians a state.'

Didn't we just do that?

I am not surprised to see Madeline Albright's or General Clark's name on that list.

Esther,
A big part of the Left's agenda is casting blame on Israel and making excuses for Palestinians.

With those three names (Allbright, Clark, Biden), we know this a far-left thing tank.

Oxymoron: leftwing think tank.

These people aren't thinking at all, and they don't get the big picture, either. A Palestinian state won't satisfy the desires these extremists have--they want more, and the Palestinian state is not the end goal.

Guys, this isn't a left wing think tank. That's why this is so scary.

He has obviously never considered the fact that Israel is TRYING to give the Palestinians, a state. Ehud Barak gave them everything they wanted except Jerusalem, but they turned it down. Ariel Sharon gave them Gaza, but they are not the least bit satisfied.

The truth is, they want the whole damned thing. But as they are finding out, that is not an option.

I went to the NAF website and found a couple of other interesting names. One was Martin Halperin. Well actually his name is Morton!
Another is Rita Hauser who is one of a group of American Peace Now nik's who made a pilgrimage to Tunis in the late 80's to give their hechsher to Yasser.
Tom Clancy while conservative in a number of ways also believes that Israel is a liability.

LA, you got that right!

David, thanks for coming by and posting. That is VERY interesting! Didn't know that stuff, especially about Tom Clancy. That's a bummer. Thanks!
