A Different Perspective

Please read the wonderful article below from Naomi Ragen:

Friends,

The following article written by a non-Jewish South African gives us an interesting and moving portrait of ourselves in the eyes of others. I guess we need some positive reinforcement, and this is beautiful.

It's interesting that the man who wrote this very moving piece is a black South African. I say that because for years we've heard the Palestinians' incessant whining about the oppression of the "occupation" as a justification for turning themselves into human bombs. It really makes you wonder why it is, then, that Jews didn't blow themselves up in order to murder German children when they were under the horrific oppression of the Nazi regime and why is it that blacks South Africans didn't blow themselves up in order to murder Afrikaaner children, when they were suffering under apartheid. Maybe it's because, once again, the Palestinians are just looking for a way to defend the indefensible.

"After all, the UN, for the first time in its history, did acknowledge
and commemorate the Holocaust.."

Unfortunately the author belongs to a very small minority of people from countries other than Western-European background, whith some awareness of the worlds's history.

During my ten years as a teacher (dealing with lots of migrant children) I was constantly astonished at their sheer ignorance of history.
And I mean not just European" but history in general - including their own regions.
To me history is as important as the air but of course this is just my opinion.
