Ceasefire My Ass

By now you have all heard about the five lives lost in a Natanya suicide bombing, courtesy of Islamic Jihad, that took place on Monday. My blood boils when I hear newscasters say that this puts a "strain" on the fragile ceasefire between Israel and the PA. As we always say, "What ceasefire??" How can the media be so clueless, at best, and so complicit at worst? For anyone who thinks Israel is not at war, I say open your eyes. And while you're at it, read this about the five victims of the "peace" happening in Israel.

And now it also became a public secret that Abbas will pay the families of suicide bombers.
"December 6, 2005: Palestinian newspaper al-Haya al-Jadidha reported yesterday President Mahmoud Abbas’ (Abu Mazen) approval of the provision of assistance to the families of Palestinian “martyrs”. Yasser Ararir, Chairman of the Gazan Association of Martyr Families revealed the decision at a symposium in Gaza, called on December 4, 2005 to explain the proposal."

Gravelrash got it in his latest post.

"Ceasefire My Ass" is exactly right, Esther. There is no such thing as a ceasefire as we know it in the West. In the Muslim world, it's a "hudna," the temporary halt to hostilities for the purpose of re-grouping and increasing the chances of destroying your enemy the next time. Don't any of those damned idiot Arabists in the State Department ever read about this stuff?

Yeah, I saw that headline and I couldn't read it at the time. Maybe I will tomorrow. Sometimes it's too sad to think of how many times I've read the same thing about so many different people - good people - over the last few years.

That is horrible, felis. And yet we make Sharon negotiate with that "leader."

Rory -- Hudna exactly.

Patrick -- So true. :(
